Dedication = Devotion, Commitment, Enthusiasm, Perseverance, Allegiance, Loyalty
This past Sunday we attended our granddaughter’s ‘Baby Dedication’ at Life Center Church in Spokane, WA. Eden, just a bit over four months old, looked absolutely angelic in the same white, satin dress her mom wore 22 years ago for the same occasion.
This was a really important moment. Not only was Eden on stage looking just as cute as could be, but her parents, Trent and Nicole, made a commitment before God to raise Eden in a Christ filled home. They both know the Lord and have promised to share God’s love with Eden to the best of their ability, today and always.
This is not a pledge to be taken lightly. And they don’t.
A life without Christ knows no grace…no forgiveness…no salvation. They want more for their daughter than this. Much, much more, for today and always. So do we.
Sometimes it’s easier said than done; times get tough, efforts can wane and our path can easily get sidetracked. But by the sheer definition of dedication, commitment should prevail. Commitment MUST prevail. Dedication isn’t about being hyped up at the moment with no follow through, bailing at the first sign of trouble or making excuses for your lack of ‘stick-to-it-ness’.
In today’s day and age, it seems more prevalent than ever to shirk responsibility and run off to what appears to be the next best thing, but Jesus is the ONLY best thing. And society tends to want everything faster and cheaper, but shortcuts aren’t always beneficial, especially since there are no cutting corners to Jesus. Many feel they are above dealing with disappointment and discontentment, but Jesus didn’t promise us perfect lives. He did, however, promise us to always be with us, to never forsake us, as we walk through our imperfect existences.
Dedication takes devotion, passion, longevity…today and always.
That’s why the ceremony for Eden was such a big deal – and Trent and Nicole knew it.
“Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.” Proverbs 22:6
A Baby Dedication is the perfect opportunity to make such a vow…and keep it…today and always. NOW is the time to get it right.
But even without a formal dedication in your future, what commitments could or should you devote yourself to? Are you falling short in any areas where the challenges of life have gotten you down, you’re enthusiasm has fizzled out and you have strayed from the path? NOW is the perfect time to refocus your energy and revive your spirit of dedication.
We’re so grateful to have been a part of the ceremony today. We’re also thankful for the reminder to stay true to what’s important and remain persistent in our endeavor to walk in God’s will, and remain dedicated, today and always.
We love you Little Miss Eden. God bless you and your mom and dad!
