The Lies We Are Led to Believe

The Devil is on the prowl. Day and night he’s constantly scheming, looking for ways to make your life miserable, and your death even worse.

No one is exempt from his line of fire.

Satan attempts to snare all of us. He tells us lie after lie to trap us, keep us down, and bind us up in the failures of our past. He encourages us to wallow in self-pity and tells us we’re strong for casting aside anyone who has caused us pain. He wants us to believe that we can’t trust anyone or that we aren’t worth anything. The devil wants us isolated and removed because then we are easy pickings. An old pastor friend of Lindon’s calls it “Devil Bait.” Satan sets us up to reel us in. Lies, lies, and more lies.

I don’t share this with you to scare you. Yes, Satan’s intentions are a frightening reality, but just because he attempts something, DOES NOT MEAN he’s going to be successful.

Can you identify the lies Satan wants YOU to believe? You aren’t smart enough. Pretty enough. Tough enough. Nice enough. No one likes you. You don’t deserve anything. You’ll never amount to anything. You’re an embarrassment. You’ll never attain financial stability. You’ll never get that promotion. You’ll never own your own business. It will never get better. Your health will never return. You don’t fit in. No one will ever want you. You deserved the abuse. You caused the deceit. You can’t be forgiven. You aren’t worthy. God doesn’t love you.

Again, lies, lies, and more lies.

What can we do to combat such a powerful force of evil? We must Acknowledge Satan, Equip against Satan, and Remain Resolute in Fighting Satan.

Acknowledge Satan – Call him for what he is – a wicked, slithering, conniving enemy of God and all mankind. Unfortunately, Satan is as real as God, and hell is as real as heaven. Satan’s full time job is to destroy souls. We can love, honor, and serve God all day long, but if we fail to acknowledge Satan’s existence and objective, we are setting ourselves up for a fall.

Don't think of Satan

Equip against Satan – You aren’t built to rely solely on your own strength or perspective. God is aware that in your humanity, you are broken and cannot go this alone. This is why He has provided the Holy Spirit to love you and show you the way. You are never, ever alone. Put on the full armor of God and walk in His Word, know His Word, and trust His Word.

“Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes.” Eph 6:11

Remain Resolute in Fighting Satan – Defending against Satan takes an intentional, consistent, determined, unyielding lifelong effort. If you relax and stray from this course, Satan will take note, crank up his ‘Lie Machine’, and launch an arsenal. He feeds on weak, unfocused targets. So does this mean you must live in ‘Red Alert’ mode at all times, so stressed out with anxiety and paranoia that you can’t enjoy life? Absolutely not! The power of your defense isn’t measured and bolstered by fearfulness, yet rather found in the strength of your relationship in Christ. It’s an offensive approach! You can relax, but relax in the arms of Jesus. He is your protection!

Pray this prayer for strength and protection:

“Heavenly Father, I ask that you guard my heart and mind from the lies Satan would have me believe. Cast all my doubts and self-sabotaging thoughts and behaviors straight into the pit of hell. Free me from the grip of deceit and bondage. God, you are Lord of my life and I ask you to equip and protect me from the forces of evil. I love you, I trust you, and I thank you for sending the Holy Spirit to take care of me. You are my Abba Father and I am eternally grateful for my abundant blessings, which are far beyond anything I deserve. Help me to walk strong in your Word and in your spirit today, tomorrow, and always. In your precious name I pray, AMEN.”

Remain vigilant but rest wholly in the love and protection God offers.

Can I get an Amen?

Thank you God!

Amen!! What a powerful prayer for strength & protection. I’m putting it on my refrigerator so I can read it every morning. Thanks for the reminder of how important it is to be aware of Satan’s tactics & to stay on course with God & his Word. I think this sentence in your post sums it up pretty well for me: “Put on the full armor of God and walk in His Word, know His Word, and trust His Word.”

Thanks Cindy! You know we always talk about ‘prepared, not scared’! 🙂 Well, this is just the same. We must always be ready, and staying strong in our walk with Christ is a surefire way to do it!

Amen!! This is wonderful, Sherry. Thank you so much for the advice. And only three steps to remember. Even I can remember that! It’s so easy to forget that we can’t fight such a powerful enemy on our own. We need God’s help and to use the tools He provides for us. Thank you!
