I’ve been waiting to write this post ever since the title found me. I’m a huge people watcher – never bored if there’s a wait in an airport or if I plop down for a break while mall shopping. I’m fascinated with observing people. I know, weird huh?! I catch comments as people walk by and notice facial expressions. You can even tell a lot about demeanor and attitude just by someone’s stride.
In smaller, intimate settings, there’s more you can pick up on. Simple gestures are great indicators of disposition and body language can give you an insightful glimpse straight into someone’s heart.
Have you noticed there are some people eternally hopeful and always looking on the bright side? Those that can’t wait to attack each day and joyfully look forward to the next. They are brimming over with life and put the effort in to make sure it’s all they want it to be. I am forever inspired by these individuals.
Then there are those who whine incessantly. Nothing seems to be good enough or fast enough. Joy and laughter are nonexistent. If they aren’t complaining, they aren’t breathing, and they dread each and every day. Honestly, the kind of people you often avoid interacting with.
Yes, there are some people that have characteristics of both, but I’ve found more often than not, there is a clear division. People are either eternally optimistic and ‘dyin’ to live’, EVEN on bad days, or are Negative Nellies and ‘livin’ to die’, EVEN when things are good.
Which are you?
Think about your common responses to daily occurrences. Your ability to handle change or challenge. Consider the level of hope for the future you feel or your excitement in planning ahead. How do you feel during the first few moments of each day? Are you a glass half full or half empty kind of person? How do you react when you encounter a hiccup or when life throws you a curveball?
God put us here to LIVE. Dying will come, but it’s nothing we should be consumed with, focused on, promoting or expediting. We should NOT WASTE LIFE! We are to enjoy our blessings, use our gifts and talents, share his good word and bring light to his Kingdom, spread joy, serve, grow, learn and have happy hearts.
“The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.” John 10:10.
God didn’t put us here to ‘live to die’. We have purpose. We aren’t to squander the life we’ve been given and the blessings bestowed upon us.
Make the most of each day, seek God in all you do, find joy in the little things, let the small stuff go, skip the complaints and overcome the negative; do something useful. Stop thinking about it, take action and make it happen! Embrace, delight in and relish every single second.
“Life is for the Living…” (Langston Hughes) LIVE IT!!!
YES! Several years ago, I was definitely more of the Negative Nellie type of person. But one day I had enough and declared that I would force myself to look for the positive. It took practice and lots of reminders and start-overs…but now I’m the opposite. Every cloud has a silver lining and every trial a blessing. 🙂
