Do You Resist When God Insists?

Do you want to build a house or a ministry?

“Really God? Are you seriously putting an ‘OR’ in that question?”

“Yup, really, but ultimately the decision is up to you,” God replied.

So friends tell me, is there REALLY a choice when you KNOW what the right thing is? No, not really. At least not for me. Hence the ‘UGH!!!!’

Let me back up…

Four months ago Lindon and I sold our house in the valley to move 90 minutes away, close to our beautiful land, in anticipation of our new home build. We own the land, job changes accommodated the move and house plans are drawn. All systems were go.

Except for one very small detail.

Instead of being 12-18 months out, our home build was realistically more like 3-5 years away. Since I work down in the valley three days each week, this equated to commuting for a longer period of time, as well as more time apart from my husband.

And this was definitely a problem for both of us.

“If God wanted us apart he wouldn’t have blessed us with our wonderful marriage,” my husband reasoned. I definitely wasn’t arguing that point! Being away from him, even for a short period of time in the company of my adorable grandson, wasn’t our best idea. Neither of us liked it or felt good about it long term.

During a recent trip to spend time with our coaches and mentors, we laid out all of our different home rent / buy / build options on the table. Tom leaned back and said, “I’m not sure exactly which route you should go but all I can tell you is you need to SLOW DOWN.”

Neither Lindon nor I knew exactly what to do with that nugget of information at the moment, but over the course of the next few weeks, we’ve heard ‘slow down’ no fewer than a dozen times! Each time we just smile at each other and discuss the deeper significance in the word God has given us. Through these moments, He has cultivated our plan.

For me, there was also another message swirling around in my head which I refused to admit for fear of delaying our home build. I kept hearing, “Do you want to build a house or a ministry?” I hadn’t shared this with Lindon yet when he exclaimed one day, “We need to move back to Phoenix.”

Yeah, sorry, there was NO WAY I was moving back to Phoenix. How in the world did THAT fit in to our ‘SLOW DOWN’ plan? I LOVE our little place up in the mountains where the air is crisp and the sky bright blue. It refreshes me and soothes my soul. It’s an escape from the overpopulated, heavily asphalted, drama-filled outside world.

Move back to Phoenix? This was DEFINITELY NOT in MY plans.

But Lindon was relentless. “Can you give me a better plan that doesn’t keep us apart two nights each week?”

I could not.

“And,” he continued, “as much as I WANT to build our home, I feel like we still need to devote the majority of our energy and resources to growing our ministry. We can’t stall now!”

BINGO! He said just what I was feeling. Again, there was no choice. I was running 0 for 2 in the choice department!

Over the course of the next few weeks, God wove some amazing details together and solidified plans on our behalf. His message was unmistakable and our direction was crystal clear.

Hallelujah and Praise the Lord!

In typical crazy God fashion, in the midst of what neither of us wants, we are finding extraordinary peace and joy in what God desires for us! God provided the most lovely home in the perfect area at an amazing price. All the other details of our move and what it will accomplish have also fallen into place. It has been nothing short of miraculous. Nothing short of God.

Sometimes I am resistant when God is being insistent, BUT if I ditch my selfish desires and immerse myself in the beauty of God’s perfect design, abundant blessings always flow!

Have you ever had a situation where you were resistant but God was being insistent? Which way did you go?

Many times I have ignored it and done what I wanted and this just delayed the blessings he had in store for me. Eventually, I did it HIS WAY (sorry ol blue eyes but God’s way is best)and it all fell into place. The limbo part, which we are in right now is the most frustrating but we realize sometimes the answer is to just wait and listen and to not jump prematurely.

Why do we always have to learn the hard way? GRR! But, at least you know now what the RIGHT way is and that God will ALWAYS take care of you and keep his promises. PRAISE HIM for that! Hang in there my friend. God’s got it all covered! xoxo
